the photo assignment for our last week of the seminar was pretty open-ended.
the first idea was that we would combine our images and come up with some new ones this week to illustrate a hymn. the word “majesty” was thrown out by happenstance and it stuck with me throughout the week.
i began to this of how to photograph the majesty of God in a different way. something beyond your average nature shot.
when my heart begins to imagine the majesty of God, i am reminded of the stillness. how when the stillness engulfs me and my thoughts dissolve away from myself, there, in that moment– majesty.
so i did the best i could to capture and create stillness.
the Bible in this photo is open to Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”
what is special about this Bible is that it is a very old family Bible that my friend gary (also in the photography seminar) gave me to use for my art. I wanted to incorporate it into the shoot because it meant so much to me and it felt like someone else was a part of this process.
i love the white because if a color could represent stillness, it would be white.
this is my beautiful room mate. one aspect of stillness is hopeful expectation. when we are still, we are waiting and hoping in the Lord. this particular room mate is an encouragement to me- she is strong and faithful. she knows what it means to wait and hope in the Lord and she inspires all of us.
the words in this photo are constructed out of twigs. i found this bench while i was looking for water and it spoke to me of sitting, being still, and meditating.
these last two photos are exactly what i imagined when i thought of stillness. i hadn’t planned on taking these because i didn’t think i’d be able to, but i got the opportunity after a wedding i attended in east texas. i am so thankful and i love how they demonstrate the majesty in the stillness.

this project concludes the seminar and honestly, i’m sad to see it go. it was the first time i’ve had the opportunity to talk about my art openly and to be challenged artistically. it was also the first time i’ve been part of the process with others and been blessed by their art as well.
i feel like this is something i want to continue in some manner and i am really excited by all the possibilities.
i love you!
and once again almost making me cry…in a good way of course 🙂
I love the picture of the Bible. It really captured my attention and, as funny as this will sound, touched my heart. It impacted me. That's a good piece of art right there.
