i like the ideas of putting my dreams and vision onto pen and paper. or in this case, into the world wide web. it allows for a certain amount vulnerability and focus. both good things that i want to ever be a part of this journey. i never could have seen this coming. i never could have imagined that only a couple months into starting the business i would be going to california, new york, and texas to be part of people’s wedding stories, with other destinations in the works. and i don’t want the vision and the focus to end there. i want to put a name and definition to my desires for this business and be able to look back and see how the things i dreamt of came true, or were even better than i could have imagined. of course, there is risk of failure. there is the possibility that i release my dreams only to reap no reward. but as i’ve been learning from a wise person in my life, our lives are risky. and without that openness, that vulnerability, and that risk, there is no reward. no growth. this journey has not come without hardship. but i am not alone. i’m thankful for the trust i can put in God and how He will see me through this journey, whether it turns out how i want or not. and how these dreams are just mere shadows of the good things to come. the forever things.
and so, this is where i would love to see joyeuse photography go.
1. to both south africa and australia for weddings. anywhere in europe would be nice too. : )
2. into the fashion industry. free people and anthropologie are at the top of my dream list.
3. to help others succeed. i would love to one day be able to give a scholarship or a helping hand to someone trying to start their own business.
4. to positively contribute to the world. via donations to world vision.
5. to germany and italy this fall for the simply bloom workshop.
6. into print! a real, live, tangible magazine feature.
7. into partnership. i’m hoping that one day the right person comes along to join forces with me and help the creativity explode.
8. into the hearts and lives of people. i want my photographs to speak to the innermost parts of the human soul. to capture the essence and the truth.
9. and finally, into unknown territory. something beyond what i can possibly visualize or dream up.
I think you’ll get there.. to all of these, especially #9. 🙂
I agree with so much of your writings in your opening paragraph. I’m so excited for you, your dreams and joys. It is so much fun to see this year unfolding.
Steve and I once dreamed to open a camp for children, or hurting families. When the Lord led us to our property in East Texas we were convinced that that was the property for this dream. But, the Lord led us instead to the Salesmanship Club, where Steve has ministered for 33 years, and a wonderful place to raise 4 boys.
We heard a sermon the first year of our marriage, about the Holy Spirit putting visions and dreams in our hearts that He has every intention of fulfilling, that is why we acted on believing for the camp. He had to show us the details, as we traveled. Now it looks as if this property will provide a home for us when we retire from the Salesmanship Club. We step forward on faith and He will hold tightly to our hand, even if we occasionally aren’t quite sure of the direction. Ps 73:23 Isaiah 41:10
oh man girl..I need to do this for myself. A mission statement. And I can’t tell you how much I want to be the one who helps you with your lucky number seven.
I can’t tell you how much the beautiful things you make tug at my heart. There IS something here, and the more I think about it the more I become convinced. Honestly I think I need to be really intentional about praying about it and who knows what He has in the works?
I know it seems almost impossible. But anything is possible for Him, and darn it, I’m gonna ask! 🙂
tahni, i’ve been reading a fantastic book on vision in photography (ok, mainly vision in capturing and editing, but nontheless VISION) and i think you would really enjoy it.
it’s called Vison & Voice – David duChermin
its for Adobe Lightroom, but even if you don’t use lightroom it is a great book anyways. he is a fantastic writer and has really helped me simplify my eyes
CHECK IT OUT GIRL
Loved reading this, Tahni! I agree with you, writing down your vision and specific dreams is a big deal. I think each item on your list is great, but specifically I think you are very much well on your way to #8. 🙂
wow – you are such an inspiration. my deepest admiration for your courage to share your dreams so openly. if you are ever in south africa, i would love to have the opportunity to meet you. 🙂
i love this. especially 3, 4 and 7. you go girl!
