being that i thought the factory-wrapped chocolate croissants sold at every little kiosk were good, i was in for a real treat when it came to the real thing. i’m currently sitting in a little cafe waiting to meet up with my new host. joseph and i stayed with some missionaries who went to texas a&m and had a really good time learning about them and their lives here in greece.
joseph and i parted ways about three hours ago.
i haven’t had enough time in athens to really get comfortable with it. although i have five days to get to know it as best as possible, i have a feeling that won’t be nearly enough.
at the moment, i’m not even sure what to do next. five days is that awkward amount of time where you could choose to spend only 2 days here and the other three going on a trip to an island or beach. OR, as i expect i will do- you can attempt to delve into the lifestyle and see what being athenian is all about.
yesterday we explored the acropolis and surrounding area. we definitely enjoyed our day climbing around the ruins, talking about the future, searching for inexpensive gyro pitas, and just being abroad together. the day ended with me helping some french tourists (in french!) and spending more time with the missionary family.
i think joseph enjoyed his time here very much and i’m sad that he had to leave.
planning as i go along has been great but i definitely had some frustration last night when my planned host for the rest of my time in athens canceled on me last minute. i scrambled around trying to find a host and managed to find a kind soul but i’m not sure i’ll be able to stay with her past this weekend. but i suppose that is how an adventure goes.
athens seems to be much more connected, in the way of internet, so hopefully i’ll be able to update as i go through my last few days here. as far as plans go, i do know that there are three art museums i want to visit– the national gallery, the contemporary european art museum, and the museum of islamic art. i also need to finish up some of the sites surrounding the acropolis. i may head to the beach for a day and i definitely still need to spend some time shopping.
They hang bananas. How? Why?
Cool.
please please please soak up every moment in the museum of islamic art & then send me all of your brain waves.
k thanks.
I hope the rest of your trip is awesome. I bet the museums will be great. and loosing housing is part of the adventure.
