There is nothing I love more than doing a bit of alternative wedding photography for a non-traditional couple. And Tena and Marko are exactly that! Originally from Croatia (so you know there was rakija involved), they have been living in Brussels, Belgium for some years and decided to host a non-wedding love party to celebrate their relationship and their commitment with their friends, rather than taking on the stress and expense of a wedding, and I think it was absolutely brilliant! Their theme was ‘Cool Cats’- bringing together their love of jazz, kitties, and a little bit of rock and roll. It was all black and gold everything. I loved that Tena opted to have a black dress instead of a white one and I especially loved that I got to wear sparkles and fluffy ears to shoot. 😉
We did a bit of getting ready photography in their apartment (their kitties had to be included in some shots), and then some super fun confetti shots and other portraits in Brussels’ Bois de la Cambre, where her maids, also dressed in black joined in for some of the photos. Finally, the party was at Le Phare du Kanaal– a café and coworking space here in Brussels, and it also happens to be the space that I work from! I can’t recommend it enough as both a coworking and for the café (and the cheesecake is to die for. And I normally don’t even like cheesecake!) Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photos from this unwedding love party! Their love and silliness is palpable, you can feel that they will be together for a very, very long time.
