{round 2} so i work at a coffee shop…

and this very very short scenario happens to me regularly.

{disclaimer: these posts are intended for comic relief only. i do not hate my job nor hate people. i do struggle to have patience and demonstrate love, and these situations make me supremely aware of that fact. but to see the humor in life is essential for my sanity. }

me: hi, how are you?

customer: cappucino.*

me: in a very defeated and slightly offended , yet, quiet voice- oh, okay. (if it is that difficult for you to say hi to me, you shouldn’t be allowed to leave your house. didn’t you learn to acknowledge people when you were, i dunno, 2? i’m being serious right now, sir.)

moral of the story?

i am not a machine. baristas, grocery store checkers, gas station clerks, and cashiers are people too, people!

and on another note, i know that “how are you?” has become just another way of saying hello in our culture. but it still calls for a response of some sort. you still have to say hello back.

*or latte or small coffee or whatever a person chooses to order.
